We leave for Vegas in 24 hours

Kwummy November 9th, 2007

Consider yourselves updated.

So, yeah…it’s been a few days

Kwummy October 11th, 2007

Sorry about the lack of updates. I’ve been busy here, but that takes up very little time. I’ve been mostly busy with work. And not in a good way. Well, it’s good that it’s helping to strengthen my resume, but it just makes me realize how much I really hate my job and that if I would move up in this company the money wouldn’t really be worth the headache. I’m not even in a senior position and it’s already a headache. I’m working 60 hour weeks with very little to show for it.

I’ve become completely frustrated in looking for jobs, too. I’ve found more than enough that I qualify for, but I never hear anything. I’ve sent out, what has to be over 60 resumes, and haven’t so much as received a call-back. Maybe it’s the market or my area, but using Monster, Careerbuilder, etc doesn’t seem to be working for me.

I’ve re-done by resume as well as have had other people look over it so I know that’s up-to-date and looking better. I have a feeling it’s my varied background which is scaring people away.

There are several different directions I wouldn’t mind my career taking either, so it’s not like I haven’t been open-minded.

I would prefer something in brand or consumer marketing. I also refuse to work in an industry I don’t have a personal interest in. That was my first mistake of taking my current job. The financial services industry, especially the division I am in, is extremely nauseating.

Every day I want to go home and apply to jobs on Careerbuilder, but then I remember how I do all this hard work applying for jobs, spending hours at a time tailoring my resume for a specific job and company, only to not have anything come of it.

I’ve tried networking, but people either can’t help or don’t really help. I think they’re just as sick of me asking them for help as I am looking for a job. I don’t blame them. I just know if I could find a position in an industry I like and the hours are a little better I would be a completely different person.

Maybe I’ll go home and look for jobs tonight.

But what’s the point?

I’m pretty sure this is God telling me he’s pissed I don’t believe in him and that I should probably kill myself.

The British are impatient when it comes to laundry

Kwummy October 1st, 2007

So, I had an interesting Sunday morning. Read about how I locked myself out of my apartment while doing laundry and almost beat the crap out of a British dude over said laundry.

How your tires should not look

Kwummy September 24th, 2007

As I had mentioned last week I had a friend coming into visit this weekend. We just sort of hung out, ate a lot of food and overall had an uneventful weekend.

However, I did have to attend a family event on Saturday afternoon which was eventful to the tune of $670.75.

Weekend

Kwummy September 21st, 2007

Got a friend coming into town this weekend. I’m leaving work at noon today so I won’t be around much.

In the meantime, here are some stories you might find interesting for the weekend:

Have a good weekend everyone!

My geekdom: Let me show you it

Kwummy September 20th, 2007

I’m going to be working on a group blog with a buddy of mine. I think I was the last person he asked so I don’t feel that important, but I’ll take my opportunities where I can get them.

It’s going to be related to all things “geek” (technology, science, gadgets, gaming, etc). It should be fun and I think it’s an awesome idea. If anything it will help me continue to hone my writing skills.

I’d like to make my site more geared towards stuff like that, it’s just hard because there’s so much information out there and I don’t have time to write about it all. I’m thinking of just doing some posts here and there where I briefly talk about stories that interest me.

I might link over to his site (if he lets me) of some of the stories I write about and post just little odds and ends over here related to said stories.

So, I’ll probably be working on that as well as this site and, oh, right, my real job.

I’m enjoying my position more simply because I’m going to be doing more interesting projects. The problem is I still hate the industry I am in and I really don’t like some of the people I have to work with. And now that one of the senior management is leaving it’s going to be even more difficult, especially if they hire some tool.

I’ll get my big break someday.

Someday.

Going to see ‘Family Guy Live’ tomorrow night

Kwummy September 14th, 2007

I mentioned it before, but I thought I’d mention it again because this is my site and I can pretty much do whatever it is I want.

For those of you who do not know, here’s some quick info on what Family Guy Live is:

FAMILY GUY LIVEbrings together The ENTIRE cast of Seth MacFarlane’s Emmy Award-winning animated comedy series for a one of a kind live stage event like no other!

After sell-out performances in Montreal, New York and Los Angeles, the sensational voices behind the Griffin family will perform an uncensored live reading of a classic episode hand-picked by MacFarlane himself and featuring bonus material never before seen on FOX. In addition, the unique live stage show includes the cast performing some of the most memorable musical numbers from the series as well as a Q&A with the cast and creators of the series — where fans will have the opportunity to find out everything they ever wanted to know about the show but never had the chance to ask.

Katie and I have tickets to the 7 PM show. We’re pretty excited. We have no idea what episode they’ll be reading from, but it’s supposed to be one of MacFarlane’s favorites.

To be honest, I don’t know how awesome that portion will be. I’m sure it will be amusing to actually see each person do multiple character voices, but it just won’t be the same without seeing some of the wacky animation.

The Q&A could go either way, but I’m guessing most of the audience will have some really stupid questions to ask. For example, ”So, like, how did you learn to do all those voices?” or “Can the family understand Stewie or not?!!?!?”

We have upper balcony seats so we won’t be close, but we’ll be right in the middle. We should have a good view. I’ve never been in the historic Chicago Theater so that should be interesting, too.

I’ll let you know how it went.

It takes hard work to keep from working

Kwummy September 12th, 2007

For all the bitching and moaning I do about my job, they just kind of came through for me a little.

I was just informed I would receive a 5% annual pay increase (the most I’ve ever received, also the highest you can get here) as well as a $2100 bonus (also the most I’ve ever received).

I know that’s not a lot to some of you, and in some cases it really isn’t. But for me it’s a good day, especially because the pay increase puts me over a goal I had set for myself. I had wanted to make a certain amount of money by the end of the year, and now I’m over it.

I think upper management knows I am not happy and they’re trying to keep me from leaving. Because honestly if I was to left it would really hurt the department. I’ve come a long way in a short amount of time. I was also told they want to bring me in on some larger projects they’re working on.

I’m like, eff that, I don’t want to have to do more work. Lawlz.

Anyway, I want to thank Jesus Christ for making all of this possible. I also want to thank beer, because without beer I would have no reason to get up in the morning.

The CTA makes people push babies

Kwummy September 11th, 2007

I was “Googling” around for some awesome CTA rants and found this gem on Craigslist. The bus this dude is ranting about is the same bus I take. It was posted two years ago. Seems the CTA hasn’t fixed jack shit in those two years.

Maybe I should just make this blog a Public Transporation Rant blog. That would sell, yeah? Have people post their horror stories and we can all have a giggle?

The full post after the jump.

Study shows 92% of Chicago is annoying

Kwummy September 7th, 2007

Sept. 7 (Chicago) - A shocking study just released by Kwummy Unified Neurological Testing (KUNT) shows that 71% of Chicagoans are stupid while 21% are considered ”yuppies.” Combined, the two groups make up more than 90% of the Chicago population.

Summer is officially over (Oh, and I’m back)

Kwummy September 4th, 2007

Had fun this weekend. Did a little skiing but mostly just relaxed. I forgot to put sun screen on my legs so they’re a little red. Oh, and the mosquitoes were fucking vicious so I probably also have West Nile.

Good times.

Closing the lake house (owned by Katie’s parents)  every year always signifies summer’s end. It’s always kind of depressing because it feels like we just opened it. Time flies by too fast. Family will still get together throughout the winter, but it’s just not the same. It’s always nice looking forward to lazy days at the lake after a hectic week at work.

But that’s enough emo talk. Let’s play catch up.

My friend Erech had no running waterfor about 12 hours on Thursday. I found this highly ironic considering he was poking fun at the fact I could not make poops in my own toliet and then flush said poops. As he so eloquently put it, I hope he had fun shooting his “proton stream” at Jenny’s “turds.”

I missed quite an exciting opening to the college football season. Appalachian State beat Michigan and Georgia Tech routed Notre Dame. It was hilarious to see that Notre Dame used all three QBs in the loss. Football also signals the end of summer as the NFL also kicks off this week. I’ll be watching to see how soon Rex collapses for the Bears and if the Bengals are going to be as bad as they were in the preseason.

I finally got to play Blue Dragon last night. I am liking it so far. The game has gotten hammered for it’s pathetic story, but I find it a little intriguing up to this point. The voice acting is good, but the dialogue is downright laughable. I can understand the criticism for the game’s lack of character development.  I’m about 4 hours in so I can’t give any good impressions. My ultimate worry is it will become too repetitive, which is death for an RPG. I’ll try to post some impressions if I ever get 10+ hours in. To this point, however, I think it’s been money well spent. I just have a feeling when Oblivion GOTY, Eternal Sonata and Halo 3 drop (all this month, mind you) I’ll forget all about Blue Dragon.

I guess that’s about it. I really, really needed that mini vacation.

And I’m out

Kwummy August 30th, 2007

I’ll be gone for the holiday weekend. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

It’s been a fun first week blogging for all of my adoring fans. I want to thank God, because without him this this wouldn’t have been possible. Oh, and I guess the Devil, too, because without the Devil, God wouldn’t have much to do. Everybody likes to feel useful.

Happy Day of Labor, kids!

It’s good to have electricity

Kwummy August 26th, 2007

I think this calls for a sexy party, yeah?stewie_sexyparty01.jpg

As we’re packing the car Friday night about 12:30 a.m. to go stay at my sister-in-law’s, a ComEd utility truck pulls up near the building. They two guys in it are staring at the building seeing if it has power. To the untrained eye, it looks like it does because of all the emergency lights that are illuminated. Katie and I are just staring at the truck trying to do mind control it and will it to stop.

Finally they pull up beside our car and ask if we have power. I tell them that we, and the two buildings next to us are indeed without power. Guy responds, “We’ll try to get you up and running by morning.” I thank the guy telling him that would be awesome and get in the car and leave.

After we get to Becky and Adam’s and we’re about to go to bed, I decide to call our apartment number. (Since the phone is powered by our building’s electric connection, if it rings, that means we have power). I call about 1:30 a.m. just to amuse myself before I go to bed. Sure enough, it rings.

That means it took them less than 45 minutes to fix the issue. That’s kind of frustrating considering we were without power for 36 hours. Anyway, I understand the fact that they can only take care of so many problems at once. Something tells me all they did was duct tape two wires together. Whatever, I’m just glad to have power back before it starts to really get hot again on Monday.

Yesterday we went to the zoo with Katie’s mom and then went out to dinner with her that night. We live about two blocks from the zoo so it’s always fun to hop over there to at different times of the day to see how the animals act. Dinner was phenomenal. I had steak because I was watching Iron Chef America before we left and the big food item of the night was wild boar. It made my mouth water for a big piece of red meat. I would not recommend watching the Food Network before you go to dinner.

Hope everyone else has been having a good weekend.

This may not end well

Kwummy August 24th, 2007

It’s 5 p.m. and our power has still not been restored. It’s now been over 24 hours. Chances are I won’t be updating until Monday, which also means no Two Worlds or Bioshock for a while because I’ll have to spend most of my money on new groceries and other things one buys when he has no common amenities.

I’m hoping I can still find a way to enjoy my weekend despite the fact I have no running water or electricity and I have to move from house to house looking for rations and a toilet like some vagabond.

Try to find some way to amuse yourselves in my absence, yeah?
